Toyota Sienna Shock Absorber Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to install the rear shock absorber assembly LH on Toyota Sienna?
A: You should start the installation of rear shock absorber assembly LH by joining rear spring bumper No.1 LH to shock absorber assembly LH. Suspend the rear axle beam assembly with a jack before you place together the rear shock absorber assembly rear LH and its cushion retainer and nut to the rear axle beam. The procedure requires installation of the rear shock absorber cushion No.1 before moving on to the rear shock absorber LH cushion retainer. After this, use a new lock nut that needs temporary tightening. Repeatedly tighten the lock nut by using a 6mm hexagon wrench to maintain a final torque of 30 Nm (310 kgf-cm, 22 ft-lbf). The wrench must secure the piston rod during the process. Fasten the shock absorber cap LH according to the illustration before fitting the shock absorber head cover. Set the rear wheel before you apply torque to the specified level of 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf). The shock absorber assembly rear LH needs full stabilization with proper jack support of the rear axle beam followed by loading the rear compartment with about 90 kg weight to help tighten rear nuts. To complete the procedure install the rear wheel then torque the nut to 115 Nm (1,173 kgf-cm, 85 ft-lbf) before checking the wheel alignment. The shock absorber displays a different length depending on drive type because 2WD DRIVE TYPE requires 234 mm (9.22 in.) and 4WD DRIVE TYPE needs 258 mm (10.16 in.).
