2005 Toyota Sienna Shock Absorber Parts Q&A
Q: How to overhaul the front shock absorber and coil springs on 2005 Toyota Sienna?
A: The overhaul process of front shock absorber coil spring starts with removing the front wheel followed by front wiper arm head cap and both front wiper arms (RH and LH). Start with disconnecting the wire harness for removing 9 bolts and the cowl top brace while taking off the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly, windshield wiper motor & link assembly and the cowl top panel sub-assembly outer front. Disconnect the front stabilizer link assembly LH by taking off the nut while using a hexagon (6 mm) wrench on the ball joint to avoid turning it. Proceed by somewhat relaxing the lock nut of the front shock absorber with coil spring without removal before disconnecting the front flexible hose No.1 and speed sensor front LH. Remove next all four components consisting of 3 nuts on the upper shock absorber and 2 bolts and 2 nuts on the lower shock absorber side. Detach the front shock absorber containing the coil spring. Prepare the new front shock absorber with coil spring by fixing it to the lower bracket through 2 nuts and a bolt before placing it in a vise. The client should use Special Service Tool: 09727-30021 (09727-00010, 09727-00021, 09727-00031) to compress the front coil spring LH before taking out the lock nut and front suspension support sub-assembly. The task starts with removing the front suspension support LH bearing and front coil spring seat upper LH and front coil spring insulator upper LH and front coil spring LH and front spring bumper LH and front coil spring insulator lower LH. Check the shock absorber assembly front LH for unusual operational resistance and sounds before replacing it as needed. Significantly tighten the front coil spring LH using the same special service tool before installing onto the shock absorber assembly front LH. Installation requires the front coil spring insulator upper LH followed by the front coil spring seat upper LH which has the mark positioned outward and the front suspension support LH bearing. The front suspension support sub-assembly LH should be installed with its mark facing outward while using a new lock nut which should be temporarily tightened. After mounting all components to the front shock absorber with coil spring users must tighten 3 upper side nuts to 80 Nm and combine 2 lower side bolts with 2 nuts locked at 210 Nm when tightening while holding the nut to install the bolt. Fit the front flexible hose No.1 together with speed sensor front LH before locking it with a torque of 19 Nm. The repair procedure ends with installation of the front stabilizer link assembly LH (torque at 74 Nm) and the cowl top panel sub-assembly outer front with 9 bolts (torque at 7.5 Nm) after which wire harnesses are reconnected. The maintenance process should end with reinstalling the windshield wiper motor and link assembly together with both front wiper arms and front wheel application of 103 Nm torque before wheel alignment inspection and adjustment.
