- Q: How to service the Center Air Bag Sensor on 2006 Toyota Prius?A: The service procedure for the Center Air Bag Sensor begins with disconnecting the negative cable from the battery then waiting 90 seconds to avoid Air Bag and seat belt pretensioners from firing. First remove the lower center panel of instrument panel finish then disconnect the rear of air duct No. 3 before finally removing the center Air Bag sensor assembly with its 3 bolts and disconnection of Air Bag sensor connectors. Reinstall the Air Bag sensor assembly through the 3 bolts with torque at 17.5 N.m (178 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf). Replacement is necessary for the Air Bag sensor when it has experienced any form of drop or reveals any fracture, indentation or defective areas. Pressures from SRS wiring need to be optimized so other parts do not crimp them or block their placement before reattaching the Air Bag sensor connectors. You should install the No. 3 air duct rear and instrument panel finish panel lower center before reconnecting the cable to the negative battery terminal and running system initialization for post-battery connector systems. The last step involves verifying that the SRS warning light displays correctly for proper system functionality.
