2007 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service the Air Bag Sensor on 2007 Toyota Prius?
A: Service of the Air Bag Control Module requires a battery cable disconnection followed by waiting 90 seconds for safety reasons to avoid Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner activation. Start by removing engine under covers from both sides of the vehicle before uninstalling the left front Air Bag sensor through connector removal and extraction of two bolts. The same install process applies to the sensor on the front right positions. When installing the left front Air Bag sensor use the provided 2 bolts to fasten them at a torque of 17.5 N.m (178 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf) while making sure to avoid damaging the sensor and that the SRS wiring remains safe from pinch points. Assess all installation components for free movement when you connect the sensor connector. Fasten the right front Air Bag sensor through two bolts which must be tightened to a torque level of 9.0 N.m (92 kgf.cm, 80 ft.lbf). Install the sensor while taking measures to avoid damage and ensuring correct wiring procedures. Once installation of sensors finishes, reinstall engine under covers followed by connecting the battery cable negatively while system initialization sequences are required after battery reconnect. Examining the SRS warning light completes the installation process by verifying proper SRS function.
