2007 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you service the Clock Spring Assembly / Spiral Cable on 2007 Toyota Prius?
A: Before servicing the Clock Spring Assembly / Clock Spring the technician must disconnect the negative battery cable for at least ninety seconds to stop Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner activation. First stabilize the front wheels in a straight position after which uninstall the Steering Wheel Cover Lower from positions No. 2 and No. 3 followed by the Steering Pad Assembly and the Steering Wheel Assembly. The clock spring sub-assembly can be removed through connecting the Air Bag connector while protecting the Air Bag wire harness before unclipping its three claws. The installation procedure begins by mounting the clock spring sub-assembly after making sure both front wheels face forward and the turn signal switch stands at neutral. After that, attach the clock spring to the Air Bag connector. Follow these installation steps to position the clock spring: rotate it counterclockwise until it becomes firm and continue counterclockwise to align the marks while keeping away from using the Air Bag wire harness for turning purposes. Work to integrate the steering wheel assembly as well as the steering pad assembly and both lower steering wheel covers into the system. When reattaching the cable to the negative battery terminal the user needs to inspect the steering pad assembly before performing initialization steps because some systems demand initialization after battery reconnection. Inspect the SRS warning light and verify the steering wheel alignment position as the last step.
