2005 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the Side Air Bag Sensor Assembly on the LH side on 2005 Toyota Prius?
A: The replacement process of the Side Air Bag Sensor Assy works identically for RH and LH sides while the sequence that follows describes steps suitable for the LH side. Disconnection of the battery negative terminal marks the starting point and you should then remove the front and rear door scuff plates followed by the front and rear door opening trim Weather Strips and the center pillar garnish lower. Separate the front seat outer belt assembly and side Air Bag sensor assembly by first disconnecting its connector and then removing the 2 nuts. Fasten the 2 nuts onto the new side Air Bag sensor assembly and tighten them to 9.0 Nm (92 kgf.cm, 80 in.lbf). Replace the entire sensor assembly whenever you notice either dropping damage or physical impairment. The SRS wiring needs proper spacing from other parts and must avoid pinching during installation. Also confirm no component of the installation process is loose. Utilize the side Air Bag sensor assembly connector to finish its installation before you place the front seat outer belt assembly back in place and connect the battery negative terminal. The system initialization according to the table must be completed after reattaching the terminal followed by an inspection of the SRS warning light.
