2006 Toyota Camry Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the front crankshaft seal on 2006 Toyota Camry?
A: The seal replacement process starts by removing the front wheel on the right-hand side followed by removing the front fender apron seal on the right-hand side then the engine cover sub-assembly No.1. First remove the engine moving control rod with bracket by extracting three bolts and the control rod. The following steps consist of removing the engine mounting stay No.2 RH after engine mounting bracket No.2 RH. Begin by removing the crankshaft pulley together with its bolt using Special Service Tool before removing the fan and generator V belt. Then discard the pulley. Before installing new oil seals the timing gear case or timing chain case needs a proper seal removal using Special Service Tool: 09308-10010, 09950-60010 (09951-00200). New oil seals receive a MP grease application to their lip before installation through Special Service Tool: 09223-22010 and hammer use to drive the seal until it touches the rear oil seal retainer edge and all crankshaft grease is cleaned off. The crankshaft pulley needs to be reinstalled while the set key fits into its correct groove before tightening the pulley bolt to 170 Nm (1,733 kgf-cm, 125 ft. lbs.). The next procedure includes reinstalling the fan and generator V belt before torquing the engine mounting bracket No.2 RH to 52 Nm (531 kgf-cm, 38 ft. lbs.) and torquing the engine mounting stay No.2 RH to 64 Nm (653 kgf-cm, 47 ft. lbs.). The third step involves installing the engine moving control rod with bracket through 3 bolts which need tightening to 64 Nm (653 kgf-cm, 47 ft. lbs.) after reattaching the front wheel RH and performing engine oil leak inspection.
