2005 Toyota Matrix Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace a Speed Sensor on 2005 Toyota Matrix?
A: Before working on the skid control sensor start by taking off the rear wheel and continue by removing the brake drum sub-assembly (drum type) or rear disc brake caliper assembly LH and disc component on disc rear brake type vehicles. Separate the skid control sensor wire connection from its electrical attachment point on the sensor cavity. Seeking access to the skid control sensor requires you to discard the axle hub bearing unit at the left hid and position the rear axle hub inside a soft jaw vise. The complete axle hub assembly needs replacing when it receives sudden strong impacts or impact drops. Hit pins with a pin punch and hammer before detaching two parts using Special Service Tool: 09520-00031 (09520-00040), 09521-00020, 09950-00020 and two bolts diameter 12 mm pitch 1.5 mm. Ensure the placement of the skid control sensor does not harm the sensor rotor because replacing the axle hub assembly is needed when this happens while also taking precautions to avoid scratching the speed sensor contact surface and axle hub axle. Before assembly stick to the sensor rotor so carefully clean the contact areas of both the axle hub and the new speed sensor. With the connector at the bottom position install the speed sensor onto the axle hub using Special Service Tool: 09214-76011 alongside a press under vehicle conditions. Reinstall the left side rear hub then connect all controls and finally put back the brake drum subassembly (drum brake) or the disc (disc brake). Put back the rear wheel at the specified torque value of 103 Nm and check ABS speed sensor functionality.
