Q: How to replace the LOWER BALL JOINT ASSEMBLY FRONT LH on 2005 Toyota Matrix?
A: The task of replacing the LOWER BALL JOINT ASSEMBLY FRONT LH begins with rattle inspection of the assembly when the front side of the vehicle is lifted. Special Service Tool: 09930-00010 helps in removing the front wheel and the front axle hub LH nut. Disengage the front LH speed sensor from W/ABS and divide the tie rod end sub-assembly LH with Special Service Tool: 09628-62011 before handling the front suspension arm sub-assembly lower No.1 LH and front axle assembly LH. To detach the lower ball joint assembly front LH use Special Service Tool: 09628-62011 while also removing its cotter pin and castle nut before the assembly comes off from the steering knuckle LH. The lower ball joint assembly front LH needs inspection that involves five cycling motions of the ball joint stud before the nut installation. Then tighten the nut to completion using a torque wrench to measure 0.98 - 4.9 Nm (10 - 50 kgf-cm, 8.7 - 43 inch lbs.) on the fifth torque mark. The installation of the steering knuckle LH requires the assembly of the lower ball joint front LH together with a torque of 103 Nm (1050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.) while using a new cotter pin. The technician must install the front axle assembly LH followed by the front suspension arm sub-assembly lower No.1 LH then tie rod end sub-assembly LH along with speed sensor front LH (W/ABS). Use Special Service Tool: 09931-00020 to reinstall the front axle hub LH nut before attaching the front wheel and torquing it to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). A complete inspection of the front wheel alignment should be performed alongside ABS speed sensor signal testing (W/ABS).
