Q: How to replace the front Sway Bar Kit on 2005 Toyota Matrix?
A: The front sway bar kit replacement requires the removal of the front wheel and then elimination of the left-hand side front sway bar link assembly components consisting of 2 nuts and one sway bar link while using a hexagon wrench (6 mm) to fix the stud when the ball joint turns with the nut. The same procedure should be performed on the right-hand side. Before nut installation to the front sway bar link assembly inspect the ball joint stud then apply continuous nut tightening using a torque wrench for 2-4 second turns that results in a 0.05-1.96 Nm turning torque (0.5-20 kgf-cm, 0.4-17 inch lbs). You should separate both left and right front suspension arm sub-assemblies lower No.1 followed by rack & pinion power steering gear assembly removal and engine suspension using engine-specific instructions for 1ZZ-FE or 2ZZ-GE versions. The front sway bar kit requires removal through disassembly of the front suspension crossmember sub-assembly along with unbolted removal of four bolts and two front sway bar bracket components and two front sway bar bushes No.1. Place the front sway bar bushes No.1 and front sway bar bracket No.1 LH together with front sway bar bracket No.1 RH onto the sway bar kit front so that the bushing sits inside the bushing stopper during installation. Install the sway bar kit front on 2WD vehicles and fasten it with 4 bolts which should be tightened to 19 Nm (194 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.). Reinstall the front suspension crossmember sub-assembly through the use of Special Service Tool: 09670-00010 followed by the rack & pinion power steering gear assembly afterward install the front suspension arm sub-assembly lower No.1 on both sides. Twist the 2 front sway bar link assembly LH nuts to 74 Nm (755 kgf-cm, 55 ft. lbs.), performing the same procedure on the RH side. After front wheel installation finish the process by tightening it to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). Check and correct the front wheel alignment as the last step.
