2006 Toyota Matrix Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the front Sway Bar Kit on 2006 Toyota Matrix?
A: Begin front sway bar kit replacement by removing the front wheel and then disassemble the left-hand sway bar link assembly by uninstalling two nuts and sway bar link; the ball joint stud should be supported by a 6 mm hexagon wrench if it can spin with the nut. Repeat this process for the right-hand side. The same operation must be executed on the right-hand side too. The front sway bar link assembly ball joint stud requires 5 alternating movements before installing the nut when torque application should occur at 2 - 4 second intervals for the fifth turn which should result in a torque within 0.05 - 1.96 Nm (0.5 - 20 kgf-cm, 0.4 - 17 inch lbs.). First separate lower part assembly No.1 of both front suspension arms before separating rack and pinion power steering components and suspending the engine according to requirements. To disassemble the front suspension crossmember sub-assembly the technician should remove 4 bolts and front sway bar brackets together with the two front sway bar bushes number 1. Install front sway bar bushes No.1 between the bushing stopper on the inner side followed by front sway bar bracket No.1 LH and front sway bar bracket No.1 RH onto the sway bar kit front. The sway bar kit front installation process for 2WD requires attaching it to the front suspension crossmember sub-assembly using 4 bolts which should tighten to a torque of 19 Nm (194 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.). The front suspension crossmember sub-assembly must be reinstalled using Special Service Tool: 09670-00010. After that, install the rack and pinion power steering assembly before placing the front suspension arm sub-assembly lower No.1 to both sides. Fasten the front sway bar link assembly LH using 2 nuts which must be tightened to 74 Nm (755 kgf-cm, 55 ft. lbs.) through the use of a hexagon wrench (6 mm). The right-hand side should receive the same steps before installing the front wheel and securing it to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.) torque specifications. A front wheel alignment check and adjustment follow this step.
