2006 Toyota Matrix Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the LOWER BALL JOINT ASSEMBLY FRONT LH on 2006 Toyota Matrix?
A: First inspect the lower ball joint assembly front LH when the vehicle is suspended on jacks on its front side to evaluate possible rattle. Special Service Tool: 09930-00010 enables users to remove the front wheel while they use it to separate the front axle hub LH nut. The process begins with disconnecting the speed sensor front LH (W/ABS) and continuing to separate the tie rod end sub-assembly LH using Special Service Tool: 09628-62011, then disconnecting the front suspension arm sub-assembly lower No.1 LH and the front axle assembly LH. Detach the lower ball joint assembly front LH using Special Service Tool: 09628-62011 following nut and pin removal from its threaded fittings. Flipping the ball joint stud five times before nut installation allows you to check its turning torque. It should fall within the range of 0.98 - 4.9 Nm (10 - 50 kgf-cm, 8.7 - 43 inch lbs.). Secure the lower ball joint assembly front LH to the steering knuckle LH through a torque value of 103 Nm (1050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.) using a new cotter pin. The installer should deploy the front axle assembly LH followed by the front suspension arm sub-assembly lower No.1 LH and the tie rod end sub-assembly LH and speed sensor front LH (W/ABS). Reinstall the front axle hub LH nut using Special Service Tool: 09931-00020 and install the front wheel while torquing the fastener to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). As the last steps complete a front wheel alignment check and verify the ABS speed sensor signals (W/ABS).
