2007 Toyota Matrix Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the front lower ball joint on 2007 Toyota Matrix?
A: The front side vehicle lift-up procedure combined with the lower ball joint assembly front LH rattle check marks the beginning point for ball joint servicing and repairs. Disassembly of the front lower ball joint requires first removing the front wheel followed by usage of Special Service Tool: 4 to separate the front axle hub LH nut before using tools 09628-62011 and 09930-00010 to disconnect the tie rod end sub-assembly LH. Service technicians must begin with an on-vehicle inspection while the front side of the vehicle is jacked up. They should check for lower ball joint assembly front LH rattling but must first detach the speed sensor front LH (with ABS), then take off the front suspension arm sub-assembly lower No. 1 LH and front axle assembly LH before final removal of the lower ball joint assembly front LH by removing the cotter pin and castle nut. The lower ball joint assembly should be detached from the steering knuckle LH by using Special Service Tool: 09628-62011. Use a torque wrench to check the turning torque after you alternate the ball joint stud five times. The torque value needs to reside between 0.98 to 4.9 Nm (10 to 50 kgf/cm, 8.7 to 43 in. lbs.). Lay both components together until the lower ball joint assembly front LH meets the steering knuckle LH before securing with a fresh cotter pin and tighten the castle nut to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf/cm, 76 ft. lbs.). The installer should begin by attaching the front axle assembly LH followed by the front suspension arm sub-assembly lower No. 1 LH and the tie rod end sub-assembly LH and the speed sensor front LH (with ABS) before securing the front axle hub LH nut and front wheel with proper torque setting at 103 Nm (1,050 kgf/cm, 76 ft. lbs.). In the last step inspect the front wheel alignment and check the ABS speed sensor signal together with ABS.
