2005 Scion xB Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to overhaul the A/C Condenser with receiver condenser assembly on 2005 Scion xB?
A: The first step towards performing an overhaul of the HVAC condenser with receiver condenser assembly requires using Special Service Tool: 07110-58060 (07117-58080, 07117-58090, 07117-78050, 07117-88060, 07117-88070, 07117-88080) to discharge refrigerant from the refrigeration system. Remove the radiator grille together with front bumper cover and radiator support seal by detaching their two clamps. Start by disconnecting the cooler refrigeration discharge hose No.1 after removing the bolt along with the O-ring and covering openings with vinyl tape to block foreign materials and moisture from entering. Remove sub-assembly A of the liquid tubes along with its O-ring and properly seal the openings. Take off the two bolts on the w/receiver condenser assembly and continue by unscrewing two bolts from condenser bracket collar No.1. The installation of the cooler dryer requires usage of a 14 mm socket hexagon wrench to detach the cap and O-ring followed by pliers to remove the cooler dryer. Fit the cooler dryer into place with pliers after installing a new O-ring on the cap then lubricate the fit surfaces with compressor oil (ND-OIL 8 or equivalent) and tighten the cap at 2.9 Nm (29 kgf.cm, 25 in.lbf). The first 2 bolts on condenser bracket collar No.1 require a torque of 3.9 Nm (40 kgf.cm, 35 in.lbf) and the w/receiver condenser assembly requires 2 bolts with 9.8 Nm (100 kgf.cm, 87 in.lbf) torque. The w/receiver condenser assembly should have compressor oil applied to a new O-ring before it is installed on liquid tube sub-assembly A with a bolt torqued to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf). You need to repeat this procedure for cooler refrigerant discharge hose No.1 by adding compressor oil to fresh O-ring before you bolter it with 5.4 Nm torque (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf). The refrigerant charge process requires the use of Special Service Tool: 07110-58060 (07117-58060, 07117-58070, 07117-58080, 07117-58090, 07117-78050, 07117-88060, 07117-88070, 07117-88080) with a precise amount of 380 plus or minus 30 g (13.9 plus or minus 1.1 oz.) followed by engine heating and refrigerant leakage inspection.
