2006 Scion xB Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to properly remove and install an A/C Condenser on 2006 Scion xB?
A: Disconnection of the condenser begins by removing the negative battery cable terminal then waiting 90 seconds or more to avert Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner activation. You must run a refrigerant discharge through the system followed by removing essential components including the radiator grille, front bumper cover, radiator support seal along with the low pitched horn assembly, hood lock assembly, hood lock support brace, radiator support opening cover and upper radiator support sub-assembly. To prevent moisture or foreign matter from entering we need to detach the No. 1 cooler refrigerant discharge hose using a bolt tool while applying O-ring seals to the opening ends which must be covered with vinyl tape. Complete the liquid tube sub-assembly disconnection through the removal of the bolt and O-ring while using vinyl tape for sealing the openings. Take out the condenser with its receiver. First install the condenser with receiver assembly followed by liquid tube sub-assembly connection which requires removal of vinyl tape before applying compressor oil (ND-OIL 8 or equivalent) to a new O-ring then tightening the bolt to 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf). The No. 1 refrigerant discharge hose requires the same installation process as before while using compressor oil on the O-ring before tightening the bolt to the designated torque value. Install the components starting with upper radiator support assembly followed by radiator support opening cover then hood lock support brace along with hood lock assembly, low pitched horn assembly and radiator support seal and front bumper cover and radiator grille. The procedure includes adjusting the hood sub-assembly followed by negative battery cable reconnection then refrigerant charging along with engine thermal up to a final leak test of refrigerant.
