2004 Scion xB Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to overhaul the A/C Condenser with receiver condenser assembly on 2004 Scion xB?
A: The initial step for HVAC condenser with receiver condenser assembly overhaul involves using Special Service Tool: 07110-58060 and its variants 07117-58080, 07117-58090, 07117-78050, 07117-88060, 07117-88070, 07117-88080 to evacuate refrigerant from the refrigeration system. The first step is to detach the radiator grille and front bumper cover and radiator support seal by removing the two clamps. Divide the task into two steps starting with low pitched horn assembly removal and then disconnecting cooler refrigerant discharge hose No.1 using bolt removal and O-ring removal followed by opening protection with vinyl tape. Sub-assembly A of the liquid tube requires removal of its O-ring before sealing the opening with vinyl tape. The w/receiver condenser assembly removal process begins with unfastening 2 bolts before proceeding to remove condenser bracket collar No.1 with its 2 bolts. Protect the cooler dryer unit by first disassembling its cap and O-ring using a 14 mm (0.55 in.) socket hexagon wrench. Then proceed to remove the cooler dryer with pliers. You can install the cooler dryer by inserting it with pliers followed by installing an updated O-ring to the cap then applying compressor oil (ND-OIL 8 or equivalent) to both surfaces before torquing the cap onto the modulator to a 2.9 Nm (29 kgf.cm, 25 in.lbf) torque. First bolt down condenser bracket collar No.1 to 3.9 Nm (40 kgf.cm, 35 in.lbf) torque while following its two bolts before installing the w/receiver condenser assembly with 9.8 Nm (100 kgf.cm, 87 in.lbf) torque on two bolts. Apply compressor oil to the new O-ring while installing it on liquid tube sub-assembly A before securing the w/receiver condenser assembly with a bolt at 5.4 Nm (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf). Use compressor oil on the new O-ring and hose joint of cooler refrigerant discharge hose No.1 before torquing the bolt at the same value. Before completion the technician must fill the needed amount of 380 plus or minus 30 g (13.9 plus or minus 1.1 oz.) refrigerant using Special Service Tool: 07110-58060 (07117-58060, 07117-58070, 07117-58080, 07117-58090, 07117-78050, 07117-88060, 07117-88070, 07117-88080) followed by engine warming and refrigerant leak inspection.
