  • Q: How to service and repair the air conditioning blower motor on 2004 Scion xB?
A: The air conditioning blower motor service begins by discharging refrigerant from the refrigeration system utilizing Special Service Tool: 07110-58060 (07117-58080, 07117-58090, 07117-78050, 07117-88060, 07117-88070, 07117-88080). The suction hose sub-assy disconnect process requires using Special Service Tool: 09870-00015 to engage the piping clamp before pushing down to free the clamp lock and removing the clamp. After capping all open fittings you must remove the 2 O-rings from the suction hose sub-assy while sealing the openings with vinyl tape. Use Special Service Tool: 09870-00025 to disconnect sub-assy A of the liquid tube in the same procedure. Use your hands to take out the heater control knob followed by removing the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assy CTR, instrument panel sub-assy w/passenger Air Bag assy together with the instrument panel assy lower w/instrument panel reinforcement and air conditioning amplifier assy and ECM as you detach claws and disconnect connectors before removing screws. Connectors should be detached from the air conditioning blower assy before removing its bolts, nuts, and screws. After removing the air filter case and damper servo sub-assy the technician will take out the blower resistor followed by removing the blower motor cover and blower w/fan motor sub-assy. They will then extract cooler wiring No.2 and cooler thermistor No.1 before using a 5 mm hexagon wrench on the air conditioning tube & accessory assy and the cooler expansion valve using a 4 mm hexagon wrench. Extract the cooler evaporator sub-assy No.1 while removing its O-rings from the assembly. The installation process requires applying ND-OIL 8 (or equivalent) compressor oil to new O-rings of cooler evaporator sub-assy No.1 and air conditioning tube & accessory assy before their installation and tightening with specified torque values. The system receives a specified refrigerant amount of 380 plus or minus 30 g (13.9 plus or minus 1.1 oz.) before engine warming followed by a leak inspection.
