2004 Scion xB Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Compressor with a pulley assembly on 2004 Scion xB?
A: A mechanic must first drain refrigerant from the system through Special Service Tool: 07110-58060 (07117-58080, 07117-58090, 07117-78050, 07117-88060, 07117-88070, 07117-88080). Start the procedure by removing the engine under cover before uninstalling the fan and generator V belt. The w/pulley compressor assembly replacement begins with disconnecting cooler refrigerant discharge hose No.1 by disassembling bolt and O-ring so vinyl tape can seal the openings to stop refrigerant contamination. Proceed by taking off the bolt and O-ring which connects the suction hose sub-assembly then apply vinyl tape to seal all openings. Separate the w/pulley compressor assembly by first disconnecting its connector and then removing the four bolts. The new w/pulley compressor assembly requires 60 + 15 cc (3.0 + 0.5 fl. oz.) of drained oil because of remaining oil from the removed compressor which may reduce refrigerant cycle efficiency. Use ND-OIL 8 for compressor oil. Insert the new w/pulley compressor assembly into place while installing four bolts that need to be torqued to 25 Nm (255 kgf.cm, 221 in.lbf). Afterward, connect the connector. The suction hose sub-assembly requires removing the vinyl tape before adding compressor oil on a new O-ring before installing it with a bolt. When reinstalling cooler refrigerant discharge hose No.1 remove the vinyl tape before applying compressor oil to a new O-ring and securing it with a bolt then torques to 9.8 Nm (100 kgf.cm, 87 in.lbf). Reinstall the fan and generator V belt before adjusting it to the correct tension and performing a refrigerant charge operation with Special Service Tool: 07110-58060 (07117-58060, 07117-58070, 07117-58080, 07117-58090, 07117-78050, 07117-88060, 07117-88070, 07117-88080) while adding 380 plus or minus 30 g (13.9 plus or minus 1.1 oz.) of specified refrigerant. End the process by heating up the engine while checking for refrigerant leakages.
