2004 Scion xB Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Switch in the heater or boost ventilator control assembly on 2004 Scion xB?
A: The replacement of the heater or boost ventilator control assembly starts with taking out the 3 heater control knobs. The instrument cluster finish panel sub-assy CTR needs removal by first unscrewing two screws followed by operating the moulding remover on 6 claws and 6 clips before disconnecting two connectors. The task starts by opening the claw of the cable clamp using a screwdriver to remove the defroster damper control cable sub-assy while carefully protecting the cable wire from bending because this could impair its functionality. It is recommended to wrap tape around the screwdriver tip for better control. The procedure must be duplicated for the air mix damper control cable sub-assy followed by heater control & accessory removal. The sequence starts with unhinging the claw to remove air inlet damper control lever before taking the two screws that secure the heater switch. You should then remove the heater together with the boost ventilator control assembly. To install the air mix damper control cable sub-assy you must attach its inner cable end to the heater control lever then clamp down the outer cable on the cable clamp without distorting the cable wire. The heater control knob must stop correctly at FACE and DEF positions without knob movement while both the outer cable must stay engaged when you pull the cable. Install the heater control & accessory assy by connecting the inner cable end of the defroster damper control cable sub-assy to the heater control lever while securing the outer cable on the cable clamp followed by reintegration of the connector before finishing the process by being mindful to prevent cable wire bending. Verify that the heater control knob stops properly at both positions of MAX. COOL and MAX. The MAX. COOL and MAX. HOT positions of the heater control knob should function without recoil while the outer cable needs to stay engaged when the pull occurs.
