  • Q: How to replace the Air Bag Sensor Assy Center on 2005 Scion xA?
    A: The first step to replace the Air Bag Sensor Assy Center requires observation of restraint systems service precautions followed by disconnecting the battery negative terminal. The front wheels need to be oriented facing forward before using Special Service Tool: 09950-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05021) to remove the horn button assembly and steering wheel assembly. Proceed with cover and cable assembly removal before separate instrument panel and ducts assemblies until you expose the mounting bracket for removal. The mounting bracket for the instrument panel requires removal after separate ducts for the rear of No.1 and No.2 are dissected when removing the two bolts. The center of the Air Bag sensor assembly requires the removal of its 3 connectors before utilizing a torx socket wrench (T40) to untighten the 4 torx bolts that secure the assembly center. Install the warning label while the car is off and disconnect the battery negative terminal and wait for at least 90 seconds before reinstalling. The Air Bag sensor assembly center with 4 torx bolts must be temporarily installed before reusing this part only when the assembly has not been dropped and appears normal. During installation the SRS wiring must avoid overlapping with other components and maintain its smooth passage. The installation involves torquing the 4 torx bolts to 20 Nm (204 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf) before reattaching connectors and verifying tight installation parts alongside proper water-proof sheet positioning. Integrate first the heater duct with the lower instrument panel sub-assembly followed by the instrument panel sub-assembly with the passenger Air Bag assembly and the steering wheel assembly before finishing with the horn button assembly. Conduct inspection at the steering wheel center point together with the horn button assembly and SRS warning light status.
