2004 Toyota Celica Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the rear Sway Bar Kit on 2004 Toyota Celica?
A: Service and repair operations for the rear sway bar kit must start with wheel removal at a torque of 103 Nm which corresponds to 1,050 kgf-cm and 76 ft. lbs. The tailpipe requires detachment by first removing two bolts and springs and the gasket and three O-rings followed by a torque handle of 43 Nm (440 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.) for the tailpipe itself. The following step involves removing the bolts which secure the heat insulator. Remove the sway bar links first by loosening two sway bar kit nuts and the sway bar link and apply torque of 44 Nm (449 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.). When the ball joint rotates with the nut present use a hexagon (5 mm) wrench to prevent damage to the stud. Proceed to the opposite mounting point where you will perform the same sequence of steps. Before installation of sway bar brackets and bushings, remove two bolts and the bracket and bushing with an 18 Nm (184 kgf-cm, 13 ft.lbs) torque requirement. Place the bushing on the outside of the stopper on the sway bar kit then repeat the procedure on the other side. Finally, remove the sway bar kit. Activate the ball joint stud between 5 repeated motions by flipping and restoring the stud 5 times before adding a nut. Then employ a torque wrench to rotate the nut across 2 - 4 seconds per turn to measure the torque result on turn 5 for a suitable torque range of 0.05 - 1.0 Nm (0.5 - 10 kgf-cm, 0.4 - 8.7 inch lbs.). The installation procedure starts by carrying out all steps in reverse order from removal.
