2004 Toyota Camry Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the Crankshaft Seal on 2004 Toyota Camry?
A: Workers must begin by taking out the automatic transaxle assembly then move on to remove the drive plate and ring gear sub-assembly after using Special Service Tool: 09213-54015 (91651-60855), 09330-00021 for crankshaft retention. Next workers should extract the eight mounting bolts and both spacers together with the drive plate and front spacer. Start by cutting the oil seal lip with a knife and extracting the oil seal with a screwdriver that has tape on its tip. Immediately inspect the crankshaft for damage and smooth any damaged area with 400-grit sandpaper. When installing a new oil seal apply MP grease to the lip before using Special Service Tool: 09223-15030, 09950-70010 (09951-07100) with a hammer to tap into position without any angle contact until it reaches the rear oil seal retainer edge while maintaining the lip free from contamination. Installation of the drive plate and ring gear sub-assembly requires Special Service Tool: 09213-54015 (91651-60855), 09330-00021 to hold the crankshaft while cleaning bolts and bolt holes before applying adhesive (Part No. 08833-00070, THREE BOND 1324 or equivalent) to 2 or 3 threads of the bolts and reinstalling the front spacer, drive plate, and rear spacer on the crankshaft. The 8 bolts require 83 Nm (846 kgf-cm, 61 ft. lbs.) torque when uniformly installed before automatic transaxle assembly reinstallation which must wait at least an hour without starting the engine.
