2003 Toyota Camry Crankshaft Seal Parts Q&A
Q: How to replace a crankshaft seal on 2003 Toyota Camry?
A: Crankshaft main bearing seal replacement requires beginning with the automatic transaxle separation that involves removing engine assembly with transaxle installed or manually separate the assembly according to the same guidelines. Begin the automatic transaxle crankshaft main bearing seal replacement procedure by fixing the crankshaft with Special Service Tool: 09213-54015 (91651-60855), 09330-00021 (TMC made) and 09960-10010 (09962-01000, 09963-01000) (TMMK made). This allows you to detach the 8 bolts, rear spacer, drive plate, and front spacer. Remove the clutch cover assembly, clutch disc assembly and flywheel sub-assembly of the manual transaxle by fixing the crankshaft with Special Service Tool: 09213-54015 (91651-60855), 09330-00021 and 8 bolts, rear spacer and flywheel sub-assembly. Professional Service Tool: 09223-15030, 09950-70010 (09951-07100) should be used to tap in the new engine rear oil seal after you apply MFI grease to the lip and check for any crankshaft damage. If damage exists, fix it by sanding (#400). To remove the engine rear oil seal use a taped tip screwdriver to pry off the seal lip which should first be cut with a knife. Put MFI grease on the lip of the new engine rear oil seal before installing it with Special Service Tool: 09223-15030, 09950-70010 (09951-07100) until it reaches the rear oil seal retainer edge. Wipe away any remaining grease. The automatic transaxle drive plate and ring gear sub-assembly installation demands fixing the crankshaft with the same special tools and cleaning bolts and holes before applying Part No. 08833-00070 or Three Bond equivalent adhesive to the bolt ends then uniformly tightening all 8 bolts to 98 Nm (1,000 kgf-cm, 72 ft. lbs.) torque. The manual transaxle requires installation of the flywheel sub-assembly following the crankshaft fixing procedure then cleaning holes and bolts before applying adhesive and applying even torque to all 8 bolts at 130 Nm (1,330 kgf-cm, 96 ft. lbs.). The last step involves putting together the clutch disc assembly followed by clutch cover assembly and reinstalling their associated transaxle assemblies.
