2004 Scion xB Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to Service and Repair the Control Arm in the Front Suspension on 2004 Scion xB?
A: The replacement of the MTM Lower Front Suspension Arm Sub-Assembly Lower No.1 LH begins by uninstalling the wheels in front. Use Special Service Tool: 09628-00011 to divide the front suspension arm sub-assembly lower No.1 LH from the stabilizer bar front. The process to remove the front suspension arm sub-assembly lower No.1 LH starts with extraction of its 2 bolts and nut while avoiding nut rotation. Probe the ball joint stud of the front suspension arm sub-assembly lower No.1 LH five times before placing the nut using a torque wrench for continuous turns at two to four seconds per turn while checking the 5th turn torque which must not exceed 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 inch lbs.). The front suspension arm sub-assembly lower No.1 LH should be temporarily secured with 2 bolts and the nut during its installation process before attaching the stabilizer bar front and front wheel reinstallation at 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). As a closing step, the technician should tighten the front suspension arm sub-assembly lower No.1 LH by installing the lower suspension arm using 2 bolts which require 88 Nm (900 kgf-cm, 65 ft. lbs.) torque for Bolt A while applying 132 Nm (1,350 kgf-cm, 97 ft. lbs.) torque for Bolt B and avoid turning the nut when completing this procedure. The technician must examine and adjust the front wheel alignment afterwards.
