  • Q: How to replace the front speed sensor on 2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder?
    A: Begin the front speed sensor replacement by detaching the front wheel followed by removing the front speed sensor connector. Detach the front speed sensor with the front axle hub by removing two pins with a pin punch while striking them with a hammer from Special Service Tool: 09520-00031. Replace the axle hub assembly when dropping it or when feeling any strong shock during handling operations. Install the rear axle hub mount into a soft jaw vise. Installation requires Special Service Tool: 09520-00031 (09520-00040, 09521-00020), 09950-00020 and two bolts (Diameter: 12 mm, Pitch: 1.5 mm) to remove the speed sensor. The sensor rotor replacement should be performed if it shows damage and the contacting surfaces must be protected from scratches during removal. Use Special Service Tool: 09527-10011, 09710-04101, 09950-60020 (09951-00680) and a press to install the new front speed sensor after cleaning its contacting surfaces with the axle hub. Position the sensor with the connector in its most downward position and do not tap the sensor directly with a hammer while checking for foreign objects. Reinstall the front speed sensor on its front axle hub and then reconnect and torque the front speed sensor connector to 103 Nm with a check of front speed sensor signal completion. The LH speed sensor installation starts by removing the fender liner and clamp bolt then disconnecting the speed sensor sub-wire connector followed by removing its two clamp bolts and sub-wire. Workers must first reconnect the front speed sensor connector before installing the fender liner and sensor connector to the speed sensor. The speed sensor signal should be checked afterward. The same installation steps must be performed on the RH side. Begin with removing the fender liner, disconnecting the speed sensor sub-wire connector, and taking out the 2 clamp bolts with speed sensor sub-wire before installing the new sensor wire clamps with bolts. Afterward, reconnect the sub-wire to the speed sensor connector, place the fender liner back, reconnect the sensor to the speed sensor, then test the speed sensor signal.
