2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder Speed Sensor Parts Q&A
Q: How to replace the rear speed sensor on 2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder?
A: The first step to replace the rear speed sensor involves disconnecting the sensor connector followed by removing the rear wheel from the vehicle. First detach the grommet along with the clip followed by unscrewing the two clamp bolts and securing bolt for the speed sensor. Prior to installation check that the sensor and knuckle area both contain no extraneous material and the sensor lies smoothly against the knuckle when tightening the bolt. Mount the new speed sensor by tightening the bolt to 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.) while securing the two clamp bolts to 19 Nm (195 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.) for the body-side and 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 inch lbs.) for the upper arm side. When ready to install continue by placing the grommet along with the clip followed by tightening the rear wheel with a torque of 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). Different connectors need to be connected to the speed sensor followed by verification of the sensor signal output.
