2001 Toyota Tacoma Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to Service and Repair a Sway Bar Kit on 2001 Toyota Tacoma?
A: The sway bar kit repair process begins by removing front wheels that should be mounted with 110 Nm torque (1,150 kgf-cm, 83 ft. lbs.). Begin by removing the sway bar kit when you uninstall both nuts and sway bar link and the two retainers and bushings while torquing the sway bar kit side to 29.5 Nm (300 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.) and the lower arm side to 90 Nm (920 kgf-cm, 66 ft. lbs.). If the ball joint stud turns with the nut apply a hexagon wrench to secure the stud. Repeat this procedure to the other side. Move to the opposite side to successfully remove the sway bar kit together with its components using 29 Nm (300 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.) torque. You should detach the brackets and cushions from the sway bar kit before installation while placing the cushion inside the paint line. The ball joint stud inspection requires flipping the stud at least 5 times while monitoring its movement before applying the nut. Use the torque wrench to apply a smooth 1-turn per period of 2 seconds to 4 seconds while recording the torque measurement on the fifth turn exactly at 0.05 Nm to 2 Nm (0.5 kgf-cm to 20 kgf-cm or 0.4 inch lbs. to 17 inch lbs.). To reinstall the sway bar link ball joint installation must follow the opposite sequence of uninstallation.
