2001 Toyota Tacoma Sway Bar Kit Parts Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair the Sway Bar Kit on 2001 Toyota Tacoma?
A: When servicing the sway bar kit of RZN191L-TRPDKAB, RZN196L-CRPDKAB, PZN196L-PRPDKAB, VZN195L-CRPDKAB and VZN195L-PRPDKAB models begin with wheel removal at 110 Nm (1,150 kgf-cm, 83 ft. lbs.) torque. Start by disconnecting the sway bar links by unfastening their 2 nuts and link from the lower suspension arm and sway bar kit while tightening them to 90 Nm torque (920 kgf-cm, 66 feet lbs). To perform the operation securely use a hexagon wrench which will maintain the stability of the ball joint stud. The procedure should also be conducted on the other side. The sway bar kit removal begins by disconnecting 4 bracket set bolts with the bar and cushions and brackets at 25 Nm (260 kgf-cm, 19 ft. lbs.) torque before removing the 2 brackets and cushions from the sway bar kit. To inspect the sway bar link ball joint rotation perform a 5-time backward and forward movement of its ball joint stud before attaching the nut. A torque wrench should be used to apply continuous turning force at a rate of 1 turn every 2 - 4 seconds while recording the torque reading during the 5th turn to achieve a target range from 0.05 - 2.0 Nm (0.5 - 20 kgf-cm, 0.4 - 17 inch lbs.). The installation process should be executed in the opposite direction to removal steps.
