2001 Toyota Celica Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the Transmission Speed Sensor on 2001 Toyota Celica?
A: The repair process for the Transmission Speed Sensor begins with the removal sequence of battery then ECM and ECM case followed by ECM bracket. To access the input turbine speed sensor first disconnect its connector before removing the sensor unit by removing its bolt along with its O-ring. A new O-ring needs ATF coating before installing it to the input turbine speed sensor through the bolt which requires a torque force of 11 Nm (115 kgf-cm, 8 ft. lbs.). After connecting the input turbine speed sensor connector you should disconnect the counter gear speed sensor connector to remove the counter gear speed sensor using the bolt and O-ring removal. Apply ATF to a new O-ring before installing it to the counter gear speed sensor along with its bolt which requires 11 Nm (115 kgf-cm, 8 ft. lbs.) of torque for installation. Fitting operations begin with linking the counter gear speed sensor connector while installing the ECM bracket with its bolts tightened to 18 Nm (185 kgf-cm, 13 ft. lbs.) and nuts torqued to 12 Nm (120 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). Torque the ECM as well as its case to 6.9 Nm (70 kgf-cm, 61 inch lbs.) before reattaching the battery.
