The first step to service or repair an upper control arm requires shock absorber and coil spring removal. A torque of 8.0 Nm (82 kgf.cm, 71 inch lbs.) should be applied to the ABS speed sensor wire harness clamp before its disconnect in vehicles equipped with ABS. The upper ball joint disconnect starts with removing its cotter pin before easing the nut to a torque of 105 Nm (1,100 kgf.cm, 80 ft. lbs.). Then carefully support the steering knuckle with Special Service Tool: 09950-40011 (09951-04010, 09952-04010, 09953-04020, 09954-04010, 09955-04031, 09958-04011) to remove the joint nut. Begin by removing the upper suspension arm through nut and bolt and washers removal while torquing it to 115 Nm (1,200 kgf.cm, 87 ft. lbs.) and re-torque the nut after suspension stabilization during installation. The bushing replacement requires using a chisel and hammer to lift its flange then employing Special Service Tools 09613-26010, 09631-20060, 09950-00020 with a press for extraction. Place a new bushing inside the assembly by combining Special Service Tool: 09223-00010, 09506-35010 and a press. The front wheel alignment check becomes necessary after returning to the original installation sequence which reverses the removal order.
