2000 Toyota 4Runner Control Arm Parts Q&A
Q: How to service and repair the rear control arm on 2000 Toyota 4Runner?
A: The rear control arm servicing requires a jack-up of the rear axle housing followed by frame support with stands and simultaneous holding of the rear axle housing through a jack. ABS speed sensor wire harnesses from upper suspension arms need disconnecting on vehicles with this system. The process to remove the upper control arm starts by removing the nut along with its washer and bolt to release it from the frame connection but properly torquing the connection to 86 Nm (880 kgf.cm, 64 ft. lbs.) after stabilizing the suspension. Remove the nut and washer and bolt which connect the upper control arm to the rear axle housing before taking out the upper control arm and reapply 86 Nm torque upon completion of reinstallation. The removal of the lower control arm starts by disconnecting the frame-mounted nut and bolt then torques them to 145 Nm (1,480 kgf.cm, 107 ft. lbs.) during installation. After unfastening the lower control arm from the rear axle housing with a nut and washer and bolt combination, remove the part while torquing all new connections to 145 Nm (1,480 kgf.cm, 107 ft. lbs.). The replacement of lower control arm bushing requires Special Service Tools 09710-14013 (09710-00021, 09710-00061), 09950-70010 (09951-07150), a press to remove the bushing, alongside Special Service Tools 09506-35010, 09710-14013 (09710-00021) to install the new bushing using a press. The completion process of installation follows an order that reverses the sequence of uninstallation steps.
