    Q:
How to service and repair the rear Wheel Hub and bearing assembly on the LH side on Toyota Corolla? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step to work on the LH side rear wheel hub and bearing assembly is to unmount and discard the rear wheel. Seclude the rear disc brake caliper assembly LH through removal of its 2 bolts. For disc rear brake type cars remove the rear disc before proceeding to the drum rear brake type cars with their drum sub-assembly removal. First detach the ABS skid control sensor wire before removing the 4 bolts to uninstall the LH side rear wheel hub and bearing assembly. Use the 4 bolts to secure the new rear wheel hub and bearing assembly LH and torqued to 61 Nm (622 kgf-cm, 45 ft. lbs.). Secure the skid control sensor wire directly without twisting then check both the wheel hub bearing for proper fitment and eliminate runout. The repairs continue with the drum rear brake type brake drum sub-assembly installation then moving on to the rear disc installation for the disc rear brake type. Reattach the 2 bolts on the rear disc brake caliper assembly LH using 47 Nm (480 kgf-cm, 34 ft. lbs.) torque before installing the rear wheel with 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.) torque. In the final step inspect the ABS speed sensor signal through the ABS system.

    Q:
How to replace the rear Wheel hub and Wheel Bearing on the left-hand side on Toyota Matrix? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step to replace the left-hand side rear wheel hub and bearing assembly requires removal of the rear wheel. To initiate the procedure start by disassembling the rear disc brake caliper assembly LH through the removal of its 2 bolts. Start by removing the rear disc followed by taking out the rear brake drum sub-assembly when needed. Start the replacement of the left-hand side rear wheel hub and bearing assembly by first cutting the skid control sensor wire then removing the 4 bolts. Install the new hub and bearing assembly LH by applying 4 bolts which should be secured with a torque of 61 Nm (622 kgf-cm, 45 ft. lbs.). Reconnect the skid control sensor wire following the correct procedure since wire twisting should be avoided. A dial indicator inspection of bearing backlash must show results below 0.05 mm (0.0020 inch); otherwise you must replace the rear wheel hub and bearing assembly. Additionally check the wheel hub deviation at the surface outside the hub bolt for a 0.07 mm (0.0028 inch) maximum limit then follow necessary assembly replacements. You should now mount the rear disc and the rear disc brake caliper assembly LH with 2 bolts yet ensure proper torque application at 47 Nm (479 kgf-cm, 35 ft. lbs.). Reinstall the rear wheel after installing the brakedrum sub-assembly when needed while tightening the bolts to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). The ABS speed sensor signal needs to be checked as the final step in the process.

    Q:
How to service and repair the rear Wheel Hub on Toyota Matrix? Posted by Customer
    A:
The service process for repairing the rear wheel hub begins with removing both the rear wheel and rear brake drum sub-assembly. Check bearing backlash of the rear wheel hub using a dial indicator at its central point to verify it stays under 0.05 mm (0.0020 in.). Check the wheel hub deviation at the surface outside the hub bolt because it must stay below 0.07 mm (0.0028 in.). Replace the whole rear wheel hub and bearing system whenever the measurements go beyond their specified maximum values. After inspecting the components replace the rear brake drum sub-assembly then the rear wheel by torquing the wheel to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf/cm, 76 ft. lbs.). The removal process starts with removing the rear wheel followed by separation of the rear disc brake caliper assembly LH using 2 bolt removal before proceeding to remove the rear disc and rear brake drum sub-assembly. First disconnect the skid control sensor wire (with ABS) while removing the rear wheel hub & bearing assembly LH by unthreading its 4 bolts. Scar the rear wheel hub & bearing assembly LH with the 4 bolts then torque them to 61 Nm (622 kgf/cm, 45 ft. lbs.) while connecting the skid control sensor wire (with ABS) without twisting it. The procedure begins by fitting the rear disc then attaching the rear disc brake caliper assembly LH through two bolts secured at 47 Nm (479 kgf/cm, 35 ft. lbs.). After that, mount the rear brake drum sub-assembly followed by the rear wheel while tightening to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf/cm, 76 ft. lbs.). Check for the ABS speed sensor signal as a final step in the assessment for Vehicle Stability Control System and the Anti-lock Brake System.
