Head Gasket

A 2AR-FE engine requires the user to disconnect its negative battery terminal cable while waiting at least 90 seconds for SRS system disabling. Start by taking off the engine combined with the transaxle then remove the exhaust manifold converter sub-assembly. The next step involves removing the throttle body assembly before disconnecting the wire harness components. First detach the vacuum switching valve assembly for ACIS before you remove the fuel delivery pipe sub-assembly together with the No. 2 ventilation hose. The intake manifold along with the camshaft require removal now with the correct sequence for removing 16 valve stem caps on the cylinder head. Circular wrench with a bi-hexagon feature should be used to uniformly loosen the cylinder head bolts until their sequence is complete before removing all 10 bolts and their plate washers while being cautious about washer drop into the cylinder head which could cause damaging warpage or cracking. Finally remove both the cylinder block and the attached cylinder head gasket together.

The first step for cylinder head gasket removal involves removing both engine assembly and transaxle. The service process needs detachment of exhaust manifold converter sub-assembly after which technicians need to separate throttle body assembly and fuel delivery pipe sub-assembly. Disconnection of the No. 2 ventilation hose must take place before the removal of the intake manifold. Secondly the camshaft must be removed after dismounting the camshafts. You should take out the 16 valve stem caps from the cylinder head but you must properly arrange all the removed pieces. The 10 mm bi-hexagon wrench should be used to loosely bolt the specified sequence order before removing 10 cylinder head bolts and plate washers separately without letting washers fall into the cylinder head because that could both warp and crack the head. The last step requires removal of the cylinder head gasket from the cylinder block.

Install the engine and transaxle, connect the cable to the negative battery terminal, and perform the Reset Memory procedure for the engine assembly replacement, following the appropriate initialization for U241E (2WD) or U140F (4WD).

Inspect the cylinder head bolt and the cylinder head sub-assembly.
