The service process for the 2GR-FE timing chain or belt cover sub-assembly starts with removing the engine assembly with transaxle and several additional components including engine wire, front frame assembly, starter assembly, automatic transaxle assembly, oil level gauge guide sub-assembly, exhaust manifold sub-assemblies (RH and LH), drive plate & ring gear sub-assembly, and idler pulley sub-assembly No.2. The first step requires removal of the V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly with water pump pulley, water inlet housing, crankshaft pulley, oil pan sub-assemblies (No.2 and main), oil strainer sub-assembly, intake air surge tank, ignition coil assembly, and oil pipes No.1 and No.2. To detach the cylinder head cover sub-assemblies (RH and LH) along with the timing chain or belt cover sub-assembly you must remove 23 bolts and 2 nuts before carefully prying them off and afterward removing the gasket. After prying out the timing gear case or timing chain case oil seal with a screwdriver you should replace it with a new oil seal using Special Service Tool: 09316-60011 (09316-00011) while ensuring the seal rests directly on the timing chain case edge and coating the oil seal lip with MP grease. Seal packing (Part No. 08826-00080 or equivalent) needs to be applied as a continuous bead between the engine unit and timing chain cover after ensuring both surfaces are clean and dry before installing the sub-assembly within 3 minutes and tightening the bolts within 15 minutes. Install a new gasket then position the drive rotor spline of the oil pump correctly to the crankshaft before loosely installing the timing chain cover followed by careful bolt tightening in specified sequence to proper torque specifications. Finally, reinstall the cylinder head cover sub-assemblies (LH and RH), oil pipes, ignition coil assembly, intake air surge tank, oil pan sub-assemblies, crankshaft pulley, water inlet housing, water pump pulley, V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly, idler pulley sub-assembly No.2, drive plate & ring gear sub-assembly, exhaust manifold sub-assemblies, oil level gauge guide sub-assembly, automatic transaxle assembly, starter assembly, front frame assembly, engine wire, and the engine assembly with transaxle.
