One must disconnect the battery negative terminal before starting the ignition or starter switch assembly replacement (1ZZ-FE/2ZZ-GE). The beginning step for this replacement requires removing three screws from the lower steering column cover. Beginning with the disconnect of the ignition switch connector follows the process of unlocking the warning switch connector before proceeding to disconnect both the unlock warning switch connector from the ignition switch assembly and the wire harness from the steering assembly. A shorter process can begin by taking out the two screws which secures the ignition switch assembly. You must start by fitting the ignition switch assembly while using two screws for installation before hooking up the wire harness to the steering assembly as well as connecting the unlock warning switch connector and ignition switch connector. Reinstall the lower steering column cover by using its three screws and restore the battery negative terminal connection while applying 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf) torque.
