    Q:
How to service and repair the ignition switch on Scion xA? Posted by Customer
    A:
Service and repair operations for ignition switches start with disconnecting the negative battery terminal cable then waiting at least 90 seconds to prevent seat belt pretensioner and Air Bag activation. The steering column needs its cover removed after disconnecting 3 screws from both lower and upper segments while performing necessary steering wheel adjustments. Two connectors and wire harness clamps must be disconnected from the steering column. The removal process for the steering column upper with switch bracket assembly starts by centering a punch on the tapered-head bolts then drilling holes into their heads using a 3 to 4 mm (0.12 to 0.16 in.) drill and extracting the bolts with a screw extractor. The ignition switch assembly removal begins with unfastening two screws and switch from the steering column bracket. To install the ignition switch assembly place it on the steering column bracket using two screws then connect steering column upper with switch bracket and steering column clamp upper through the use of two new steering lock set bolts until the bolt heads break. Connect both connectors before tightening the wire harness clamps. Screw the steering column cover together by securing its lower part and upper part using 3 screws while performing regular wheel turns. During the final step of the service reconnect the cable to the negative battery terminal before beginning the initialization process which may necessitate system initialization when disconnecting and reconnecting the cable.
