Its appearance have a metal threaded shell, the central electrode and a ceramic insulator to transfer an electrical current from the ignition system into the combustion chamber. In the course of its usage, the following are possible indications that Spark Plugs of a Highlander are worn out; poor fuel economy, slow acceleration, difficult start on cold mornings, inconsistent combustion, and rough running. In order not to cause harm to the engine parts and guarantee enhanced combustion, those Spark Plugs that have signs of wear should be replaced by an experienced mechanic.

Toyota Highlander Spark Plug Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to install the spark plugs and ignition system components on Toyota Highlander?
    A:
The installation of spark plugs for the 2GR-FE ignition system requires torquing the 6 spark plugs to 18 Nm (183 kgf-cm, 13 ft-lbf). You should install the 6 Ignition Coils by using 6 bolts which require a torque setting of 10 Nm (102 kgf-cm, 7 ft-lbf). Start by connecting the 6 ignition coil connectors followed by installing 4 bolts [A] to 8.3 Nm (84 kgf-cm, 73 in-lbf) and nuts [B] at this same torque value. Install the 2 clamps [C]. After which install the intake air surge tank assembly while you temporarily mount the No. 1 surge tank stay before installing the throttle body bracket. Next tighten both the No. 1 surge tank stay along with the throttle body bracket to maximum strength. Connect the main wire from the engine room space before assembling the air cleaner cap and then installing the outer cowl top panel and windshield Wiper Motor with links and cowl top ventilator louver and front wiper arm and blades for both left and right sides. The last task includes installing the V-bank cover sub-assembly followed by engine coolant addition and V-bank cover leak inspection before installing the No. 1 engine under cover and the engine under cover assembly.
  • Q: How to service and repair the spark plugs on Toyota Highlander?
    A:
Service and repair the spark plugs on a 2GR-FE engine can commence after removing both the engine under cover assembly and the No. 1 engine under cover. To start begin draining the engine coolant but before doing so remove the V-bank cover sub-assembly. First remove front Wiper Blades and arm assemblies from both sides of the vehicle then move on to separate the cowl top ventilators followed by uninstalling windshield Wiper Motors with links. First disconnect the main wire in the engine room while also removing the outer cowl top panel sub-assembly. The first step includes the removal of throttle body bracket and the No. 1 surge tank stay. The technician should first untighten the intake air surge tank assembly and then disconnect the air cleaner cap sub-assembly. The Ignition Coil assembly needs removal through 4 bolts [A] and nut [B] extraction followed by 2 harness clamp [C] disconnection and cancellation of 6 ignition coil connectors before using bolts and ignition coils for removal. Remove the 6 spark plugs as the final step of the process.
