Clean the two No. 2 camshaft bearings and position them according to the measurements specified for 1.05 to 1.75 mm (0.042 to 0.068 in.). Before installing the No. 2 camshaft and then the main camshaft clients should clean the camshaft journals while applying a light engine oil coat to the journals and the housing along with bearing caps. Ensure that all camshaft journals and housing and bearing caps receive engine oil before tightening the 10 bolts to 16 Nm using a torque of 163 kgf-cm or 12 ft-lbf. Verify the position of the camshaft bearing caps' marks before completing the installation sequence. Install the valve rocker arm before applying Toyota Genuine Seal Packing Black (or Three Bond 1207B equivalent) in a continuous line with 3.5 to 4.0 mm (0.138 to 0.158 in.) diameter. Then install the camshaft housing sub-assembly within 3 minutes, tightening the 17 bolts to 27 Nm (275 kgf-cm, 20 ft-lbf). Inspect the cam lobe position before cleaning away any unnecessary seal packing material after installation. The camshaft timing gear assembly requires the knock pin to be present while the gear must move freely onto the camshaft without additional force until you reach a clearance of 0.1 to 0.4 mm (0.004 to 0.016 in.) before torquing the flange bolt to 54 Nm (551 kgf-cm, 40 ft-lbf). Before tightening the camshaft timing exhaust gear assembly the technician should confirm the gear flange maintains the proper position on the camshaft surface. Use Special Service Tool: 09223-22010 to install the crankshaft timing gear or sprocket followed by No. 1 chain vibration damper and the chain sub-assembly and chain tensioner slipper and No. 2 chain vibration damper and the timing chain or belt cover oil seal. Position the oil seal to be flush with the timing gear case edge and lubricate its lip with MP grease.
