Scion xB Coil Springs Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How do you remove the rear coil spring on Scion xB?
A: The first step for removing the rear coil spring starts with wheel removal from the rear. Begin by removing both the rear floor side member cover to the left hand side and the rear floor side member cover to the right hand side. The maintenance begins with removing the rear floor side member brace sub-assembly followed by separating the skid control sensor wires of both LH and RH sides. Support the spring seat of the rear axle beam assembly with a jack and wooden block but do not overextend the jack height while loosening the 2 spring bolts but leaving them in place. Slightly alter the rear Shock Absorber assembly LH and the rear shock absorber assembly RH by themselves. Lower the jack until you remove the rear coil spring. Properly position the identification mark if you use the spring again. In case the mark is missing apply new paint according to the indicated area. After extending the rear axle beam assembly past its full rebound position keep it out of position for a maximum of 10 minutes only. The technician should remove the rear coil spring upper insulator followed by the rear coil spring lower insulator.
