  • Q: How to install a Neutral Safety Switch on 2010 Toyota Camry?
    A: The installation of the shift lever position sensor involves attaching it to the manual valve shaft through 2 bolts which serve as temporary fasteners. The process requires a new lock plate which should be secured by tightening the nut with a torque of 6.9 Nm (70 kgf-cm, 61 in-lbf). The control shaft lever should be turned clockwise until it stops before being turned counterclockwise two notches prior to removal. Secure the protruding part at the neutral basic line and make sure the center point of nut stopper play matches the neutral basic line. Secure the nut with the lock plate using a screwdriver after reclaiming 13 Nm (133 kgf-cm, 10 ft-lbf) torque by tightening the two specified bolts. Mount the control shaft lever along with its washer and its corresponding nut and tighten it to 13 Nm (133 kgf-cm, 10 ft-lbf). Connect the transmission control cable assembly to the control bracket after inserting a new clip and placing it into the bracket holes. Ensure proper installation of the cable within the B claws and secure the A claws on the clip into bracket holes. Safely connect the shift lever position sensor connector then switch the control shaft lever to the N position while tightening the transmission control cable assembly to the control shaft lever with a nut reaching 15 Nm (150 kgf-cm, 11 ft-lbf) torque. Check and modify both the shift lever position and the transmission control cable assembly following the installation. Begin by installing the air cleaner inlet assembly followed by the engine under covers LH and RH then reconnect the cable to the negative battery terminal with proper torque value of 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 in-lbf). Some system components need to initialize after the cable reconnection.
