2010 Scion xD Water Pump Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to remove the water pump assembly on 2010 Scion xD?
A: A proper start to replacing the water pump assembly requires you to drain the fuel system pressure. The service begins by taking out the battery along with the battery tray and front wheels as well as the engine under covers from both sides. Then drain the engine coolant. The service begins by eliminating the front wiper arm head cap and continuing to remove the front wiper arm and blade assemblies (both sides) and hood to cowl top seal and cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly with its left and right cowl top ventilator louvers. Next, proceed to uninstall the front wiper motor and link and the front air shutter seal (RH) followed by the outer cowl top panel and air cleaner assembly and air cleaner bracket and battery carrier. Proceed with the No. 2 cylinder head cover removal and subsequent removal of fan and generator V belt and No. 2 radiator hose. Also disconnect No. 1 radiator hose and No. 1 oil cooler outlet hose and handle the No. 2 oil cooler inlet hose and hood lock assembly. Finish the sequence with removal of No. 1 cooler cover and upper radiator support absorber with its sub-assembly. The next step includes removing the radiator assembly followed by separation of pulley compressor and transmission control cable assemblies which are needed for both automatic and manual transaxle services. The technician must detach the union to check valve hose together with the No. 1 fuel vapor feed hose and engine wire along with heater water hose outlet A and heater water hose inlet A and fuel tube sub-assembly. The procedure requires disassembling the clutch release cylinder assembly while separation occurs for the manual transaxle system. Along with this, technicians must remove the column hole cover silencer sheet followed by separating the steering sliding yoke sub-assembly and the No. 1 steering column hole cover sub-assembly. The service technician should remove the shift lever knob sub-assembly (for manual transaxle) together with console panel upper, console box cover rear, console box carpet, rear console box sub-assembly and front console box, front floor brace center, front exhaust pipe assembly as well as the front axle shaft LH and RH nuts. The required service order includes the separation of front LH and RH speed sensors and tie rod end sub-assemblies in addition to front stabilizer link assemblies LH and RH along with front lower suspension arm sub-assemblies LH and RH and front axle assemblies LH and RH. The last step requires removal of the engine assembly with transaxle and front suspension crossmember sub-assembly and water pump assembly by undoing 5 bolts and the water pump gasket from the timing chain cover.
