How to remove the thermostat on 2010 Scion xD?

The engine coolant needs draining before a thermostat removal process. The first step is to dismantle the water inlet by unbolted the two nuts which separates the radiator hose and water inlet from the cylinder block. First drain engine coolant and detach the thermostat from the cylinder block while removing the gasket from the thermostat.
