2010 Scion xB Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to install the steering knuckle on 2010 Scion xB?
A: The installation of the steering knuckle requires first installing the front disc brake dust cover and then securing the 4 bolts in the axle hub which should be torqued to 96 Nm (979 kgf-cm, 71 ft-lbf). The bearing hub needs installation with its magnet rotor facing upward to avoid damage. The installation procedure requires front lower ball joint assembly followed by front axle assembly and front lower No. 1 suspension arm sub-assembly. Set and place the front disc brake caliper assembly next to the front disc before final installation. Place the tie rod end sub-assembly and fasten the front axle hub nut next. The user should first detach the front disc brake caliper assembly then remove the front disc for inspection of both the front axle hub bearing for looseness and its ability to stay in a straight line. The maintenance process requires the front disc followed by the front disc brake caliper as well as the front speed sensor installation. To complete the process install the front wheel before torqueing it to 103 Nm (1050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf) then examine and align the front wheel as needed. Proper functionality of the VSC sensor signal should also be tested.
