2010 Scion xB Parking Brake Cable Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to install the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly on 2010 Scion xB?
A: You must involve the 2 claws to attach a new parking brake cable support clamp onto the parking brake cable before starting installation of the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly. Insert the parking brake cable through the disc brake cylinder before engaging the clip claws of the parking brake cable to the rear disc brake cylinder guide. The rear disc brake cylinder operation lever should receive the cable end before the parking brake cable is installed into the body using bolts torqued to 6.0 Nm (61 kgf-cm, 53 in-lbf). Engage the cable clamp. It is essential to install the rear floor side member cover before applying 3 nuts with a torque of 5.5 Nm (56 kgf-cm, 49 in-lbf) to the front No. 2 floor heat insulator followed by installation of the front No. 1 floor heat insulator using the same nut application. Secure the installation of the center exhaust pipe assembly and the front floor center brace and parking brake cable end stopper by fitting the 2 claws onto the parking brake equalizer. Fasten the No. 1 parking brake cable assembly by having both claws attach it directly to the parking brake cable end stopper. Screw the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly to the parking brake equalizer following the same procedure for the installation of the No. 2 parking brake cable assembly. The parking brake lever sub-assemblies have to be installed after completing the parking brake lever travel adjustment and installing the console box mounting bracket with torques at 27 Nm (275 kgf-cm, 20 ft-lbf) for all 5 bolts. Put the console box assembly together with the console box carpet followed by the installation of upper console panel sub-assembly. The final step includes placing the rear wheel and torquing it to 103 Nm (1050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf). An exhaust gas leak test should follow.
