2010 Scion xB Brake Master Cylinder Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and replace the brake master cylinder on 2010 Scion xB?
A: The brake fluid draining procedure comes first while removing and replacing the brake master cylinder followed by thorough surface cleaning of the painted areas that might have come into contact with fluid. The first step involves the removal of the windshield wiper arm cover then continuing with front wiper arm and blade assembly removal from both the left and right sides of the vehicle. You must detach the hood to cowl top seal while working on both sides of the cowl top ventilator louver as well as removing the front wiper motor and link. Unfasten the outer cowl top panel followed by the air cleaner assembly after completing the prior steps. Slide off the clip from the clutch reservoir tube before extraction. Begin by detaching the brake fluid level warning switch connector along with the wire harness from the master cylinder while severing the harness clamp from the wire harness clamp bracket and employing a union nut wrench to disconnect the two brake tubes from their sub-assembly. You must first take out the brake master cylinder sub-assembly by unclipping the two nuts together with the wire harness clamp bracket. Remove the O-ring as well. Treatment of the master cylinder should be gentle to prevent impacts and release of vacuum pressure from the brake booster should happen before removal. Handling of the brake master cylinder sub-assembly requires that you maintain its horizontal position or position it tip-down to stop the piston from separating from its mount. Clean the master cylinder piston using a cloth before applying a single thin layer of lithium soap-based glycol grease to the circumference of the piston. The use of other fluids or greases should be strictly prohibited for this process.
