2009 Scion xB Brake Master Cylinder Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to install the brake master cylinder on 2009 Scion xB?
A: Installing the brake master cylinder requires first checking the brake booster push rod clearance with the vacuum off while checking the brake pedal using the accessory tool several times with the engine off. After applying brake master cylinder sub-assembly accessory tool with chalk mark the tip of the tool and set it on the brake booster unit to measure clearance at the push rod location which should equal 0 mm (0 in.). Use Special Service Tool: 09737-00020 along with a socket driver (7 mm (0.28 in.)) to adjust the push rod length when the clearance measurement is not specified. Suppose you place a new O-ring onto the brake master cylinder sub-assembly following its installation and the sub-assembly and wire harness clamp bracket with 2 nuts at 13 Nm (127 kgf-cm, 9 ft-lbf). The brake tubes must be fitted to the brake master cylinder sub-assembly while using a union nut wrench for installation at 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft-lbf) torque without the wrench or 14 Nm (143 kgf-cm, 10 ft-lbf) torque that requires the wrench to maintain alignment with the torque wrench. After placing the harness clamp onto the wire harness clamp bracket you must install the wire harness onto the brake master cylinder sub-assembly and connect the brake fluid level warning switch connector. The vehicle features manual transmission so users should link the clutch reservoir tube using a clip. The installation order consists of the air cleaner assembly, outer cowl top panel, front wiper motor and link, cowl top ventilator louvers for both LH and RH sides and the hood to cowl top seal, front wiper arm and blade assemblies for both sides and the windshield wiper arm cover. Fill the brake fluid reservoir then proceed to bleed the master cylinder followed by the brake line and actuator before inspecting the reservoir fluid level and searching for brake fluid leakage.
