2008 Scion xB Brake Master Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to install the brake master cylinder on 2008 Scion xB?
A: The installation of the brake master cylinder begins with inspecting and adjusting the brake booster push rod under vacuum-free conditions of the brake booster through repeated brake pedal depressions when the engine remains off. New brake master cylinder sub-assembly installation requires an adjustment but reusing the old master cylinder does not need adjustment during brake booster assembly replacement. The accessory tool from the new brake master cylinder sub-assembly requires chalk application to its tip before placement on the brake booster assembly. Check the clearance between the push rod and this accessory tool and it should equal 0 millimeters (0 inches). Adjust the push rod length with Special Service Tool: 09737-00020 and a socket driver (7 mm (0.28 in.)) to achieve the correct specification if the clearance measurement deviates from the standard. After installing a new O-ring on the brake master cylinder sub-assembly you must apply two nuts to both the sub-assembly and wire harness clamp bracket prior to tightening them to 13 Nm (127 kgf-cm, 9 ft-lbf). First install two brake tubes to the brake master cylinder sub-assembly using a union nut wrench according to specific torque requirements of 15 Nm for the wrench alone and 14 Nm for the wrench measurement together. While performing these torque procedures keep the wrench surface parallel to the torque wrench. The wire harness demands installation onto the brake master cylinder sub-assembly through the harness clamp bracket while connecting the brake fluid level warning switch connector. The clutch reservoir tube requires connection with its associated clip in manual transaxle vehicles. Install the air cleaner assembly followed by the outer cowl top panel while you add the front wiper motor and link to the cowl top ventilator louvers (LH and RH), then fit the hood to cowl top seal and front wiper arm and blade assemblies (LH and RH) and windshield wiper arm cover. The reservoir needs brake fluid added after which technicians should bleed the master cylinder then the brake line and brake actuator before checking the fluid level and searching for brake fluid leaks.
