2008 Scion xB Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove the parking brake cable on 2008 Scion xB?
A: The first step for removing the parking brake cable begins with taking off the rear wheel. The procedure begins with removing the upper console panel sub-assembly then the console box carpet followed by the console box assembly. Complete the removal of the console box mounting bracket through the process of removing its five bolts. Disconnect the parking brake lever sub-assembly after all other procedure steps. Similar installation techniques must be used to disconnect both the Number 3 parking brake cable assembly from the parking brake equalizer and the Number 2 parking brake cable assembly from the equalizer. The first step involves disengaging the two claws from the parking brake cable so the assembly can be extracted from its position on the end stopper. Then the stopper can be easily detached by disengaging the claws holding it to the parking brake equalizer. The front floor center brace and center exhaust pipe assembly should follow the previous components. Proceed with removing the front No. 1 floor heat insulator after disconnecting the 3 nuts before moving on to the front No. 2 floor heat insulator. The next step requires removal of the rear floor side member cover. To remove the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly use pliers and pinch the both ends of its cable clamp followed by flexing the clamp to detach it. Open and dissolve the 5 bolts until the parking brake cable emerges from the surface of the body. To disconnect the cable end from the rear disc brake cylinder operation lever you need to use an offset wrench (14 mm) at the base of the parking brake cable to disengage the clip therefore extracting the parking brake cable from the rear disc brake cylinder. Users should free the 2 claws to pull away the parking brake cable support clamp from the parking brake cable.
