2010 Scion xB Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to install the A/C Compressor on 2010 Scion xB?
A: The first step to install the HVAC compressor for the 2AZ-FE engine involves oil level adjustment through helium inert gas valve discharge to drain the oil from specified vents while maintaining the removal amount equal to the new compressor oil capacity of 90(+15)cc (3(+0.51) fl.oz.) minus residual oil in the discarded compressor. The installation requires ND-OIL8 or equivalent oil for the compressor. Use the drain bolt together with its washer followed by application of ND-OIL8 compressor oil or equivalent. Begin by attaching the compressor assembly with a "TORX" socket wrench (E8) and torquing the two stud bolts to 9.8 Nm (100 kgf-cm, 87 in-lbf). Secure the compressor with two bolts and two nuts by tightening them according to the specified order up to 25 Nm (255 kgf-cm, 18 ft-lbf). Permission to connect the discharge hose requires removal of vinyl tape followed by surface application of compressor oil to the O-ring and fitting and O-ring installation onto the discharge hose and bolt tightening to 9.8 Nm (100 kgf-cm, 87 in-lbf). The suction hose sub-assembly needs to be installed in accordance with the previous steps. You should install the fan and generator V belt along with the rear engine under cover RH, the No. 1 engine under cover, and the center transmission under cover assembly following the order. The system receives refrigerant before the engine warms up as you check for refrigerant leakage.
