2009 Toyota Tundra Steering Knuckle Parts Q&A
Q: How to install the steering knuckle on the LH side on 2009 Toyota Tundra?
A: Installing the LH steering knuckle requires first using a brass bar to install a new knuckle grease retainer cap with a hammer until it seats properly but take care to protect the non-reusable component from damage. The installation of a new steering knuckle oil seal requires Special Service Tool: 09950-60020 and 09951-01030 and pressing procedures while being mindful to avoid damaging the non-reusable seal. To install the steering knuckle LH begin by using a nut to attach the front suspension upper arm and torque this to 110 Nm (1,122 kgf-cm, 81 ft-lbf) before installing a new clip by adjusting the nut alignment when needed. The front lower ball joint attachment LH must be connected with the tie rod end sub-assembly LH before installing the front axle hub sub-assembly LH. Tighten the bolt which holds the front speed sensor LH to the steering knuckle at 11 Nm (107 kgf-cm, 8 ft-lbf) and fix the clip to its proper place. Both aluminum and steel front wheels should receive proper torques with aluminum wheels secured to 131 Nm (1336 kgf-cm, 97 ft-lbf) and steel wheels secured to 209 Nm (2131 kgf-cm, 154 ft-lbf). Reattach the cable to the negative battery terminal while being aware that some technical setups can need post-installation setup processes. Reviews of the speed sensor signal must be combined with SRS warning light verification and front wheel alignment checks with adjustments where necessary.
