2008 Toyota Tundra Steering Knuckle Parts Q&A
Q: How to install the steering knuckle on the LH side on 2008 Toyota Tundra?
A: First install the new knuckle grease retainer cap on the LH side of the steering knuckle by using a brass bar and hammer but avoid damaging the cap because it is non-reusable. Heat up the steering knuckle oil seal with Special Service Tool: 09950-60020 and 09951-01030 and carefully insert it without damaging the non-reusable seal. The installation of the steering knuckle LH starts with attaching the front suspension upper arm using a nut torqued to 110 Nm and then installing a new clip while readjusting the nut to achieve alignment of clip holes. Install the front lower ball joint attachment LH while fastening the tie rod end sub-assembly LH. To complete installation attach the front axle hub sub-assembly LH and connect the front speed sensor LH to the steering knuckle using a bolt which requires 11 Nm (107 kgf-cm, 8 ft-lbf) torque before installing the clip. Mount the front wheel while applying 131 Nm torque for aluminum wheels and 209 Nm torque for steel wheels. Connect the cable to the negative battery terminal and watch for system initialization requirements which might apply. The maintenance procedure ends with testing the speed sensor signal alongside SRS warning light evaluation followed by any necessary front wheel alignment inspection and adjustments.
