2009 Toyota Land Cruiser Shock Absorber Parts Q&A
Q: How to install the front shock absorber with coil spring and related components on 2009 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: The front shock absorber with coil spring requires secure attachment of the upper chassis section using four nuts and the lower section to the lower suspension arm by bolt and nut. The installation requires connection between the steering knuckle LH and skid control sensor wire. Install the stabilizer link RH for temporary use with a bolt and nut and secure the nut with 128 Nm (1305 kgf-cm, 94 ft-lbf) torque. The stabilizer link installation on both the front stabilizer link assemblies requires a bolt for the lower arm and a bolt along with a nut for the stabilizer control arm. If the stabilizer control cylinder extends, a jack should elevate the control arm to simplify the process. Tightening of both stabilizer bracket LH and RH requires 2 bolts that need to be secured to 87 Nm (887 kgf-cm, 64 ft-lbf) while applying the procedure in 3 steps as per the illustration. Install the No. 1 engine under cover sub-assembly while the front fender splash shield sub-assemblies LH and RH should be installed afterwards. Suspend the suspension while using torque tools to tighten front wheels to 131 Nm (1336 kgf-cm, 97 ft-lbf) and lowering the car repeatedly. Secure the front shock absorber coil spring nut to a torque level of 180 Nm (1835 kgf-cm, 133 ft-lbf) and simultaneously tighten the 4 opposite pair upper nuts to a torque of 45 Nm (459 kgf-cm, 33 ft-lbf) while verifying the first nut achieves the specified torque. The bolt of the front stabilizer link assembly LH needs to be torqued to 135 Nm (1377 kgf-cm, 100 ft-lbf) when all 4 wheels remain on the ground while the nut requires 140 Nm (1428 kgf-cm, 103 ft-lbf) torque. Reapply torque of 135 Nm (1377 kgf-cm, 100 ft-lbf) to the bolt of front stabilizer link assembly RH. Check the vehicle height when closing the stabilizer control through the accumulator housing shutter valve before putting up the stabilizer control valve protector.
