2009 Toyota FJ Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove the windshield on 2009 Toyota FJ Cruiser?
A: A proper windshield removal process starts with disconnecting the negative battery cable. The first step requires unfastening the windscreen wiper cover then dissassembling front wiper arm and blade assemblies both on the left and right sides. The first steps are to take off the roof antenna pole sub-assembly together with the antenna ornament. Start by detached front fender side panel upper sections from the right and left side of the vehicle and continue with the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly and its right and left components. Disassemble the front door scuff plates alongside access door scuff plates, front floor footrest, footrest clip, cowl side trim boards, roof side inner garnish covers, roof side rail garnishes and both front door opening trim Weather Strips. The removal process starts with eliminating the assist grip plug and assembly followed by subsequent removal of visor sub-assemblies, front pillar garnishes, visor assemblies, visor holder, inner rear view mirror stay holder cover, inner rear view mirror assembly, and room light assembly. Lower the front part of the roof headlining by some amount yet keep it attached to the rest of the section. The windshield outside upper moulding sub-assembly along with roof drip side finish moulding retainer, front pillar outer garnish, roof side garnish protector and windshield outside lower moulding must be taken out by disengaging the 6 claws after applying protective tape to the outer circumference of the windshield glass. Use a knife to cut away the windshield outside molding while carefully protecting the vehicle body from any harm before completely removing the moldings. Apply protective tape around the outside edge of the windshield glass before securely attaching piano wires between the body of the vehicle and the glass to which you should also add tie handles. You must maintain care to avoid paint damage or ornaments on the vehicle while placing plastic sheets between the wire piano and safety pad to stop scratches. Use suction cups to remove the windshield glass after disengaging the 2 stoppers yet leaving maximum adhesive on the vehicle body during the process and marking windshield glass and vehicle body when glass reuse is planned.
